Training

As a result of the training demand on WFP Logistics, it’s extensive specialized expertise in the field of emergency logistics training as well as its mandate as logistics cluster lead, WFP continues to develop its Training Centre for Humanitarian Logisticians.

Simulation Training Programmes
Currently the centre runs several simulation-based training programmes including the Technical Field Operation Training (TFOT), a training for WFP Logistics staff, and the Interagency Logistics Response Team training (LRT), a training for logisticians from all organizations participating in the Logistics Cluster. This training aims to best prepare the cluster to effectively work as a team in response to emergencies.  To date, over 200 logisticians have been trained in the TFOT and the LRT.

In September 2009, WFP Logistics conducted the first Emergency Response Simulation Training (ERS) exclusively for external clients. The training was designed to develop comprehensive emergency response capacity among UNICEF managers. Twenty trainees participated in the simulation, gaining a clearer understanding of the various roles within the emergency response mechanism and best practices for collaboration with them.

Technical Training Programmes
WFP is currently developing training modules on six main technical areas within Logistics - Surface Transport Contracting, Warehousing, Port Operations, Aviation Support, Supply Chain Management and Transport Manual.  This programme will serve WFP as well as our partners at international and local levels and WFP Logistics will work on an approach to make relevant technical trainings available to other organisations in an appropriate manner.  For updates on these trainings and when they will be made available, please contact Logistics.training@wfp.org.

The ultimate goal of WFP Logistics is to further expand the role of the Centre's training scope to become a multidisciplinary global humanitarian emergency training centre, extending WFP trainings to other organizations and further developing partnerships with humanitarian organizations in supporting their own training.
